Lectio Divina

What is lectio divina?

Lectio Divina, or “divine” reading, is an ancient and contemplative way of reading the Bible together. It dates back to the early centuries of the church and was established as part of monastic living by St. Benedict in the 6th century. In this type of reading, we slow down and dive deep into one passage of scripture. It is not a Bible study where we dissect and analyze the scriptures, but instead a way to rest in the promises of God. It is about listening to the Holy Spirit move as you hear and pray through the reading. There is no sermon or lecture in this space, and little to no dialogue. The focus is put on reading the scripture together, contemplatively.

This is a time to rest together, to remember our humanity, and the God who saves us.

So light a candle, find a cozy chair in your home, and join me in prayer on Zoom.
