Wednesday Evening Book Conversation

Learning to Walk in the Dark, by Barbara Brown Taylor

Brown Taylor writes, “Darkness is shorthand for anything that scares me – either because I am sure that I do not have the resources to survive it or because I do not want to find out.  If I had my way, I would eliminate everything from chronic back pain to the fear of the devil from my life and lives of those I love.  AT least I think I would.”

The author opens each brief chapter with an inquisitive quote or verse from scripture.  In this way, she invites us to think not only about our own personal experience, but to also help us think about the spiritual implications and impact of how we think about darkness.

I find the author’s language to be welcoming; inviting the reader to dive into a topic that might not be at the top of the list of fun things people want to do.  Throughout the book there are many places to stop and think more deeply about our personal experiences and how they have shaped who we are.

We will meet over ZOOM on the following Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:30 pm.
